What is the Hudson River School Art Trail?

It is one of my favorite things to do here in the Hudson Valley. It will give you a chance to walk in the footsteps of some of the most famous landscape artists of the 19th century. The Hudson River School was a group of landscape painters who influenced the visual arts scene in the United States for over 50 years. Their paintings are now exhibited in some of the nation's most prestigious art museums.

The Hudson River Art Trail, a project that takes advantage of the region’s rich cultural and natural resources, is an example of such a project. It will be a visitor's guide to the Hudson River School's iconic sites. This includes a mobile website, a printed guidebook, and a series of outdoor educational panels. The trail can be found in Hudson, New York as well as Catskill, New York and Connecticut.

There are more sites than 20 to explore. You can visit the Thomas Cole National Historic Site. You will find numerous hiking trails. You can also access many sites by vehicle. This trail is part the Hudson River Valley Greenway. It was established to protect the region’s cultural and natural treasures. The project is also part of the National Park Service’s Rivers and Trails Program.


There are other sites along the Hudson River Art Trail, including a few in Connecticut and a couple in New Hampshire. Kaaterskill Falls is the most visited site along the Trail, located on a highway 23A. You can hike to the falls, but the best time is during the spring. There is also a visitor parking area.

The rubbing Medallions are an excellent way to capture Hudson River School art. Eight of these are located along the scenic Hudson River Valley. Visitors can mark the exact spot of a Hudson River School famous painting with these unique markers. By rubbing on one the medallions, participants can create a "passport".

One of the most beautiful places in America is the Hudson River Valley. Many of the Hudson River School's paintings have remained the same since the 19th century. The obvious and logical fact that artists were drawn by the area's natural beauty is evident in the site. The Hudson River School painters believed in art as a spiritual and moral transformation. They imagined the American landscape to be a Garden of Eden. To this end, they painted large canvases and used atmospheric lighting. These paintings are still impressive today.
